Overview of the Campus Missionary Apprenticeship
The campus Missionary Apprenticeship (CMA) is designed to train individuals in vocational full-time campus ministry and usually lasts 10-24 months. The training takes place under the guidance of experienced campus missionaries, and is a bridge between one's university education, career, vocational ministry, or university ministry on a secular campus. During this time a person can test his or her calling into full-time ministry.
What is the focus of the CMA?
People from across Canada and around the world come to post-secondary institutions to prepare for careers in public service, international relations, medicine, law. and government. We are convinced that apprenticeship is fundamental to prepare those people God is calling to campus ministry, and central to our purpose for university ministry in Canada.
Our primary aim is to prepare people to be eligible to serve as district appointed campus missionaries by pioneering new campus ministries and/or serving as staff with existing ministries. The apprenticeship is designed to train individuals in most areas of full-time university ministry, and ministry skills are learned under the supervision of an experienced campus ministry staff person.
Due to the nature of the universities that we serve in Canada, we aim to equip to people to minister on traditional universities and colleges, urban metropolitan universities, and commuter campuses.
Each UCM apprentice shall be trained by experiencing ministry in the context of a Biblically based campus community of student believers devoted to the development of worship, prayer, fellowship, discipleship and witness. This practical ministry equipping and supervision shall be combined with a basic biblical education through a directed course of study. In addition, a deliberate focus upon personal spiritual formation and godly character shall be fostered within the apprentice's private walk with God.
The rationale behind the CMA program
We offer an authentic place of growth and excellence to prepare individuals, couples or families for university ministry. The UCM Apprenticeship is specifically designed to develop a person's character, intellect and university ministry skills.
We want to see university students who have been changed by Christ give their lives to see many more university students experience the life-giving gift of God's grace.
